The board's role in fundraising is to provide leadership, financial support, and connection to donors and potential donors. The board must be structured to meet the primary needs of the organization. Some of what your board must do to make your organization successful: Make a proud personal annual gift Understand your organization's fundraising goals and strategies Help thank your donors Communicate with donors and tell your story Help identify and cultivate donors Make the "Ask" when appropriate Support fundraising efforts and make the resources are available Attend organization activities and bring along a few friends The facilitator for this workshop is Ann Shackelford, Director of Growth, Development and Partnerships for Teach for America. Every organization needs a succinct, clear message that is used consistently by all members of your group. Topics covered: Shaping your organization's message Identifying target audience and competitors Formation and practice of tagline, elevator speech, and key messages Developing a Communications Strategy The best communication is intentional—not random. Your organization's message is too important to leave to chance, so you need a strategy. Topics covered: Formulating a yearlong communication plan Incorporating traditional and social media Public speaking Community events The facilitator for this workshop is Dan Prater, Instructor of Communication and Director, Center for Nonprofit Leadership at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri.
